Mother Calls for Theater Boycott

A mother in Portland, Maine, is calling for the community to boycott a downtown movie theater after someone has robbed the staff at gunpoint on three separate occasions.

There have been armed robberies at the Nickelodeon Theater in January, April, and then just this past Monday.

The mother calling for the theater boycott says maybe management will not step up security until they start losing business. Susan Wall is relieved her daughter is leaving her job at the theater. Her daughter put in her two weeks notice on Monday, only to be the victim of the third armed robbery the next day.

Staff says a security camera image could have helped police catch the robber the first time. Now Susan is putting pressure on the management to install cameras and increase staffing. She's writing letters to local papers, calling for the community to boycott the theater until changes are made.

Over the phone, the company that owns the Nickelodeon says they're working on it. The theater workers we spoke with say they're not too worried. They think management is making changes.

The company's vice president says it's not apparent if a boycott is catching on in Portland. He says if business is down, it's most likely because of the weather, not security concerns.
