The former owner of a Massachusetts funeral home accused of improperly caring for dead bodies and embezzling more than $375,000 from clients has been indicted on additional charges.
A grand jury on Tuesday indicted 54-year-old William Ryder, of South Hadley, on nine additional counts of larceny over $250 and one count of life insurance fraud.
The new charges allege that Ryder and his wife, 47-year-old Susan Ryder, defrauded a life insurance company. Susan Ryder is also indicted on single counts of insurance fraud and larceny over $250.
William Ryder pleaded not guilty last week to allegedly embezzling money from clients who thought they had bought pre-need funeral arrangements and funneling the money into his own business account.
William Ryder's lawyer said his client is dealing with health issues.
