Man Arrested After Hiding Handgun at Worcester Public Library

A Massachusetts man faces charges after hiding a handgun in a bookshelf inside the Worcester Public Library.

On Aug. 14, an off-duty Boston police officer was in the area of Main and Chatham Streets when he noticed a man carrying a handgun in his waistband.

The officer followed him to the library and notified Worcester Police about the suspicious male.

Officers found 24-year-old Luis Bernudez of Worcester sitting at a computer.

Through reviewing surveillance footage, authorities discovered that Bermudez placed a handgun on a bookshelf in one of the library aisles. The gun was recovered and collected by a Crime Scene Unit.

Bermudez did not have a licence to carry a handgun and was placed under arrest. He was charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition without an FID card and disorderly conduct.

The investigation is ongoing.
