Man Convicted in Fatal 2013 Stabbing Gets Life Sentence

A 36-year-old New Bedford, Massachusetts, man is going to prison for the rest of his life after he was found guilty of murder and witness intimidation in the 2013 fatal stabbing of a mother of three.

The mother of 35-year-old Tiffany Ann Durfee found her body in her daughter's New Bedford apartment in March 2013. Prosecutors said Jeremy Amaral cut Durfee's throat and stole her 55-inch TV before selling it for heroin. He then misled investigators during police questioning a day after the murder.

Amaral claimed while on the stand Wednesday that his brother was responsible for the stabbing.

Jurors convicted Amaral Thursday. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, and four to five years in prison for witness intimidation.
