Man Heading to Prison After 2nd Child Sex Assault Conviction

A 68-year-old man who was convicted of raping and abusing a child in 2001 is heading to prison again for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in his Massachusetts home.

The Sun reports that a judge Thursday told George Peterson he was convicted of "monstrous" and "heartless" crimes and sentenced him to up to 40 years in state prison.

Prosecutors say the Townsend man lured the boy into his basement in January 2014, forced him to take drugs and alcohol, and then sexually assaulted him.

Peterson was convicted last month on charges including indecent assault and battery on a person under 14.

Peterson's attorney had asked for the 15-year minimum mandatory sentence. Prosecutors recommended a 25 to 30 year sentence, citing his "predatory" behavior.
