Massachusetts Family Awarded $32 Million After Loved One Killed

A jury has awarded more than $32 million to the family of a Massachusetts woman killed when a car crashed into a convenience store where she was shopping.

Kimmy Dubuque was inside Cumberland Farms in Chicopee in November 2010 when a car driven by an 81-year-old man that may have been traveling at more than 80 mph crashed into the store.

The 43-year-old Dubuque's husband and daughter alleged negligence, saying the company should have installed barriers to prevent vehicles from striking the building.

Lawyers for Cumberland Farms said there had never been an accident at the site since the location opened in 1974, and there were no federal, state or local regulations requiring barriers.

The Republican reports that the jury Tuesday ruled by a 10-2 margin in favor of Dubuque's family.
