A motorist was charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal crash in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, police say.
Yarmouth Police and Fire responded to the 1 Blue Rock Road early Saturday morning around 1:26 a.m. The passenger, later identified as 28-year-old Steven T. Berrio of Harwich, had been ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The motorist of the vehicle, 33-year-old James D. Rebello III, was extracted from the driver's seat using the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.
Police found alcoholic beverages crushed inside the vehicle. They concluded that Rebello was intoxicated and subsequently charged him with manslaughter by motor vehicle, speeding, failure to stop, failure to stay within marked lanes, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
