Opening statements in the trial of a Worcester, Massachusetts, man charged in the drug-related slaying of two other men are expected to get underway.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys are scheduled to present their cases to the jury Monday in the double murder trial of 25-year-old Michael Wood. The Worcester Superior Court jury was selected last week.
Wood is charged with fatally shooting 20-year-old Victor Estrella, of Framingham, and 21-year-old Moises Nazario, of Worcester, in April 2011.
Police have said the shooting was the result of a botched drug deal in which the defendant and two companions thought they were getting cheated.
Wood has pleaded not guilty and his lawyer maintains he did not fire the fatal shots.
The two other men involved have already pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
