Police: Racist Text Messages Sent by Middle School Student Fabricated

No charges have been taken against the student

The racist text messages allegedly sent by a student at Ottoson Middle School in Arlington, Massachusetts were fabricated, according to police and the superintendent of schools.

Arlington Police began an investigation last week of a sixth grade student. Following the investigation, police determined the student who claimed to have received the racist messages had falsified the story.

"The allegation of racist texts being sent from one middle school student to another was concerning and hurtful to the entire community and I am disappointed that a student would falsify a report of this nature," said Superintendent of Schools Kathleen Bodie.

No charges or disciplinary action has been taken at this time against the student who fabricated the report but police are working with school officials to determine appropriate action.

"We're happy to have been able to bring it to a quick resolution," said Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan.
