Two men were arrested in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Saturday night after one suspect was found to be in possession of heroin and an illegal firearm, state police confirm.
Around 5:30 p.m., a trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 495 southbound for a motor vehicle violation.
Investigation yielded that the passenger of the vehicle, 23-year-old Michael Griffin of Dover, New Hampshire, was in possession of an illegal 9mm pistol and 24.5 grams of heroin. In addition, the motorist identified as 23-year-old Joseph Roberts of Middleton, New Hampshire, was found to have a suspended license in Massachusetts.
Both Griffin and Roberts were found to be in possession of nearly $22,000. The money was wrapped in bundles- consistent with the purchase of narcotics.
Griffin was held on $250,000 pending his arraignment in Haverhill District Court. He is charged with possession of a firearm with an FID card and trafficking heroin, morphine, or opium.
Roberts is charged with speeding and operating with a suspended license. He was released on bail.
