A Massachusetts boxing trainer portrayed in the movie "The Fighter" by actor Christian Bale has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Dicky Eklund was held on $500 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in connection with a Friday night traffic stop.

The Sun reports
that Eklund was seen driving by Lowell police without his headlights on. He was pulled over and officers say his speech was slurred, his breath smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were glassy.

Police say Eklund said he had a "sip" of beer but hadn't taken his prescription medications in two days. Officers say he failed some field sobriety tests.

Eklund's attorney said his client was not driving erratically and always has slurred speech.

Eklund trained Mickey Ward, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movie.
