Secretary of State, Mayor Announce US-China Climate Change Summit to Be Held in Boston in 2017

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh have announced that Boston will host an international climate change summit next year.

Kerry, a former U.S. senator from Massachusetts, and Walsh made the announcement Tuesday at the U.S.-China Climate Leaders Summit in Beijing.

The event is expected to draw 2,000 business officials and urban leaders from across the United States and China.

The mayor's office says participants will discuss and share experiences in building low-carbon, climate-resilient communities.

Walsh says the selection demonstrates Boston's leadership on the global stage in creating a greener and more sustainable city, pointing out that Boston has made significant progress in the past two years.
