Police in Manchester, New Hampshire, say they have been searching for a man who tried to swim across the Merrimack River but was carried downstream, according to witnesses.
Police say they've been looking for the 34-year-old man who is believed to be homeless and made an attempt to swim from east to west to reach a campsite Monday afternoon. Police have been looking for the man near the Queen City Bridge.
New Hampshire State Police and others searched the river by helicopter and police and fire departments used boats before ending their search at about 8 p.m.
The search was expected to resume Tuesday morning.
