A man is dead and a woman arrested after a domestic incident Wednesday in Leominster, Massachusetts, officials said.

The woman was identified as Jami Parker, 28. Investigators believe she shot her boyfriend in the head during an argument at her home on Main Street at the intersection of Keystone Drive.

Parker called 911 to report the shooting, requesting an ambulance for her boyfriend, according to the paperwork, which identified the man as 53-year-old Jeffrey Carr. The man was found on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the head and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Parker was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and armed assault to murder. She entered the courtroom sobbing.

Her interim defense attorney told the judge she is sergeant in the Massachusetts National Guard — the Guard confirmed she enlisted in 2018 — with no prior criminal record. He needed more time to review the facts before he could comment, though he noted there was "a history of restraining orders against the alleged victim."

Carr was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly throwing glass Christmas ornaments at Parker last January, while in September he was charged with assault and battery on Parker, who was pregnant at the time, for allegedly hitting her during an argument, court documents show.

After the second alleged assault, Parker applied for a temporary restraining order. Both charges were dropped at the victim's request.

Asked about the case outside of court Thursday, a woman who identified herself as Parker's aunt would only say, "She's a victim."

Sources tell NBC10 Boston an infant was home at the time of the shooting.

The incident was reported about 10:30 p.m., Wednesday at a home on Main Street, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office, which had said Thursday that the names of the people involved weren't being released because the incident was domestic in nature.

Several police vehicles were seen outside a home on Main Street early Thursday morning. Leominster police have not released any information about the investigation, referring all questions to the district attorney's office.
