Police Seeking Suspect in Bank Robbery

The man told a teller he had a gun, although did not show a weapon

A bank branch inside a Westerly grocery store has been robbed, and police are still looking for a suspect.

Police say a man thought to be in his 20s robbed the Washington Trust branch inside McQuade's Marketplace around 6:25 p.m. Monday.

Chief Edward St. Clair says the man told a teller he had a gun, although did not show a weapon. He was given an undisclosed amount of money, then fled on foot.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call them.
