6-Year-Old Dies in Early-Morning House Fire

A 6-year-old boy died in an early-morning house fire in Williamstown, Vermont, Monday.

According to NBC 5, the fire broke out at the home on Railroad Street around 3:30 a.m.

Eight people were inside the home at the time of the fire. The boy, identified as Chance Martin, was unable to make it out after being trapped in his bedroom, according to officials. The family's dog also died in the fire.

The boy's mother, 23-year-old Tanika Lashomb, and his grandfather, 44-year-old Kevin Lashomb, were taken to UVM Medical Center in Burlington. Tanika Lashomb has since been released, and Kevin Lashomb is in stable condition as doctors and nurses tend to his burns.

The home is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
