Vermont's largest utility says homes and businesses are getting their electricity back after strong winds with gusts up to 85 miles an hour knocked out power to about 18,300 customers.
Green Mountain Power says it has restored power to more than 12,700 of those affected as of 9 a.m. Tuesday. It expects full restoration by late Tuesday night.
Spokeswoman Dorothy Schnure says the worst of the wind is over.
Customers in the southeastern areas of the state were the hardest hit, with most of the outages in the Springfield, Royalton and Brattleboro areas.
Crews from Burlington Electric Department and Vermont Electric Co-op are sending crews to help.
