Which 2016 presidential candidate has received the most money from Massachusetts residents? It’s not even close.
Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton has received $4,042,909 from Massachusetts residents, according to Federal Election Commission campaign finance data. That’s almost three times as much as the $1,414,239 that her opponent, Bernie Sanders, has received. Martin O’Malley, who dropped out after Iowa, raised $223,896.
Among those donating to Clinton were Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim ($300) and state senators Linda Dorcena Forry, Sal DiDomenico and Cynthia Creem ($1,000 apiece).
On the Republican side, Marco Rubio leads the way with $634,775 raised, followed by Jeb Bush - who has already dropped out of the race - at $395,432. Ben Carson is next at $241,501, followed by Ted Cruz at $230,654 and John Kasich at $174,766.
Donald Trump has raised just $55,790 in Massachusetts, less than Lindsey Graham, Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina and Ron Paul and only $4,000 more than Scott Walker, who dropped out of the race back in September.
In Vermont, meanwhile, hometown hero Sanders has outraised Clinton by a 9-1 margin, with $949,690. Clinton has raised $103,619 there.
Among Republicans, Rubio leads the way in Vermont fundraising at $81,017, followed by Cruz at $29,044 and Carson at $28,208. Trump has raised just $608 in Vermont, and Kasich only $50.
