Vermont State Police say a 27-year-old man has died after he lost control of his pickup truck and it crashed into some trees in the town of Barton.
Police said Corey Carpenter of Barton was traveling east on Lake Region Road on Wednesday night when he attempted to turn onto U.S. Route 5 without stopping at a stop sign. The pickup continued across both lanes of travel of the road and crashed into the trees.
Police said it does not appear that Carpenter was wearing a seatbelt, and had to be extricated from the pickup. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The crash remains under investigation. Police believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
