Vermont Selectboard Member Accused of Soliciting Prostitute at Motel

A selectboard member in a central Vermont community has been accused of soliciting a prostitute.

Police in Shelburne said Lynn Doney, 57, of Northfield, paid a man to perform sex acts inside the Harbor Place motel on Route 7.

In addition to being a selectboard member, Doney is an EMT, Washington County sheriff's deputy, and a part-time police officer in nearby Barre, where police said Doney also paid for sex.

Following a multi-department investigation, Doney was charged with soliciting prostitution and obstruction of justice.

He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Burlington on Thursday. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
