Cities such as Keene, New Hampshire, are taking part in a nationwide candlelight memorial to recognize homeless people who have died during the past year.
In Keene, events start at 5 p.m. Sunday with singing, followed by a ringing of the bells at the United Church of Christ. There will be a reading of the names of New Hampshire homeless people who have died in the last few years.
A group called Hundred Nights Inc. is hosting the event and will lead a procession to its cold weather shelter.
Donations of gently used of new winter gloves, boots, long underwear, socks, and heat-and-eat meals will be accepted at the Open Doors Resource Center on the first floor of the shelter.
The memorial is taking place in over 150 communities nationwide.
