    Suspect in subway push

A father of four says he's grateful to be back home after bystanders rushed to help him when a stranger pushed him onto the subway tracks as a train was approaching Brooklyn Bridge station Friday morning.

Edwin Pinez, 55, of Staten Island, was cut in the face from the fall on the platform of the northbound 4/5/6 trains, according to police. The pusher had come out of nowhere to push him to the tracks as a train was coming.

"Somebody grabbed me from behind and pushed me onto the tracks, and I fell and couldn't get up," Pinez told News 4 New York on Friday.

Pinez said straphangers nearby jumped to his aid and helped him back onto the platform.

"They were saying 'get up, get up,' but I was so wobbly," he said. "Then I felt hands picking me up to the platform."

Pinez, who underwent oral surgery and now has stitches in his mouth from the push, said he wishes he could thank each of the good Samaritans personally but never got the chance.

As for the suspect who simply walked away, "I hope he gets caught, that's all I can say."

"It never crossed my mind that I was going to die," he said. "I'm glad I'm home."

The suspect is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, about 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a gray sweater and bookbag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
