Showers North While Downpours Hit Southern New England

Today (Tuesday): Showers, steadiest rain 1-4 PM, heaviest focus southeast MA. Highs near 60.
Overnight Tuesday Night: Clearing. Lows around 40.
Wednesday: Sunny and brisk. Highs near 50.
We have a slightly warmer day but not too much in the way of sunshine, and we’re dodging showers from time to time for our Election Day 2019.
First, a warm front Tuesday morning will have a few showers from eastern Massachusetts to Maine, then a cold front with some heavier downpours is possible across central and southern New England in the afternoon.
Temps will start off in the 30s and 40s, climbing to near 60 degrees in southern New England. Temps will be at about 50s north in the afternoon. Wind is from the south and southwest, gusting at 10 to 20 mph.
Rain should shut off during the evening, followed by cooling and drying with patchy fog and frost possible Wednesday morning. Low temperature will be in the 20s and 30s North, to 40s South.
High pressure should bring us a bright day Wednesday, but on the colder side again. High temperature will be near 50 degrees with not too much wind.
There’s a very fast flow high in the sky, and one cold front after another is zipping at us from south-central Canada, where it’s getting cold like early winter right now. There’s also a warmer flow coming out of Texas. Our challenge is timing and placing waves of low pressure racing in our direction.
How each of the streams interact over New England is a huge challenge here late this week and into next week.
We likely will have a wave of low pressure arriving first Thursday with a mix of snow and rain likely. Temperatures then will only be in the 30s and 40s. Initially, the snow levels could be high in the hills, but may come down close to sea level as the precipitation ends early Friday. There’s a chance that there could be some accumulation warranting snow removal crew deployment north and west.

The jury is not quite in on snowfall just yet.
And that begins an extended period of trying to pinpoint exactly when, where, and how much snow and wintry cold we may have as the temperature is going to feel more fitting for December than November around here through the weekend and into next week.
