13-year-old Choir Boy Shot in Boston

(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Boston) - A 13-year-old choir boy was shot in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood on his way to church Friday evening, and police are asking for the public's help in finding the shooter.

Police say the shooting happened around 7 p.m. Friday.

Earlier it was reported that the unidentified teen was with his mother when he was shot at the corner of Homestead and Humboldt Avenue; however, police say he was alone at the time and was on his way to church.

"Police responded, they found a young man, 13 years old, laying in the street," Supt. Kevin Buckley said. "This young man was walking up to the church at the time of this. He's a member of the church. He's in the choir, and we're looking for help from the public."

At this point, we know the boy is in critical condition at Boston Medical Center and, as of 10 p.m. Friday, in surgery. His mother has been taken to the hospital by Boston Police.

Boston Police are still searching for suspects, and do not have any information at the moment, although they say a gray vehicle may be involved.
