73-Year-Old Manchester Man Killed in Crash

A 73-year-old Manchester man was killed in a crash early Friday morning.

Police said they responded to a serious crash at the intersection of Tolland Turnpike and Oakland Street at 12:22 a.m. and found that a 21-year-old Manchester man hit the back of 73-year-old Solomon Reid’s 2003 Nissan Murano.

Reid sustained serious injuries and an ambulance transported him to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. 

The other driver was transported to Hartford Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police said the intersection and the Interstate 84 exit 63 ramp were closed for several hours while police investigated.

The Manchester Police Department Traffic Unit and the Metro Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating and ask anyone who saw the crash or has additional information to call Officer Helvidio at 860-645-5560.
