    District Attorney: Kendric Price's Life Also Had Value, Meaning

    At a press conference on the Jassy Correia case, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins took the opportunity to address the shooting death of Kendric Price, of Dorchester.

    The Suffolk County District Attorney is urging the public to step up in the death of an assistant basketball coach at the University of Massachusetts - Boston.

    Rachael Rollins spoke at a press conference Sunday regarding the Jassy Correia kidnapping case, but she took the opportunity to also address Kendric Price's shooting death.

    "I want to point out that a man named Kendric Price was shot and killed early yesterday morning," Rollins said at the Boston presser. "His life also had meaning and value, and his death also leaves a community in sorrow. Mr. Price's homicide deserves the same outpouring of public support we received in this case [Jassy Correia] and I urge anyone who has information on it to please contact our office."

    Price, 32, of Dorchester, was shot and killed around 3 a.m. Saturday.

    The community held a vigil for the man Saturday night.

    Officers responded to the area of 12 Greenwood Street around 2:58 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Price with apparent gunshot wounds, and he was declared dead at the scene.

    Police are treating the case as a homicide.

    UMass - Boston said in a statement that "Kendric was a great young coach who worked with our men’s basketball program. We are all saddened by the tragic news of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendric’s family.”

    Price, a former University of Michigan basketball player, is remembered by loved ones as someone who was caring and joyful.

    "He was an amazing dude," said a close family friend. "His smile alone. That's what I'm gonna miss the most, his smile."

    The fatal shooting is under investigation. No suspect has been named by the Boston Police Department.
