    What to Know

    • A Flash Flood Watch is in effect most of today in Southern New England.

    • Most of the rain today will be light to moderate but expect occasional downpours and thunderstorms.

    • There will be dry hours to be outside - especially late this afternoon and this evening.

There’s a definite divide across New England today, with beautiful sunshine in far Northern New England, and lots of clouds in Southern New England. Waves of rain are also moving through the area, especially under those clouds in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

While most of the rain that’s falling today is light to moderate, there are occasional downpours and thunderstorms embedded that are producing a quick 1-2 inches and localized street flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect as a result.

While you really need to be ready at any point today, there will be dry hours to be outside, especially late this afternoon and this evening around the Boston area.

On the Cape and Islands most of the day will be dry except for a few passing showers.

Temperatures will stay in the 70s thanks to a light onshore wind.

That onshore wind will also produce a few pockets of minor coastal flooding just after midnight, since tides are around 12 feet.

Sunday is very similar, with mostly cloudy skies and occasional waves of rain lifting through the area. Temperatures will again be in the 70s.

The clouds will tend to limit our view of the Perseid Meteor Shower as it peaks Sunday night.

The unsettled weather pattern lingers into Monday and Tuesday, with more hit and miss showers and storms. Humidity will build by then, too.
