Lynn Homeowner Holds Off Armed Burglary Suspects With Machete

"I can be fairly intimidating looking, I guess," Evan Luongo said

A Lynn, Massachusetts homeowner held off a pair of armed burglars using a machete on Monday night.

Evan Luongo said he goes to bed early and was trying to sleep just before 8 p.m. Monday when he heard breaking glass. He got up to find a door in his home closed with a light on.

Knowing someone was inside, he grabbed his machete and prepared to open the door.

"I can be fairly intimidating looking, I guess... waving a machete," Luongo said. "He pulled a knife on me as I reached the door, but he was shaking so much that he didn't have a real good grip on it. The other one pulled out his little pellet gun. Then I just screamed at them to drop their weapons and kick their weapons at me."

He managed to hold the suspects and call Lynn police. They arrived to arrest 19-year-old Adelson Fedna and a 16-year-old juvenile.

Police said they were trying to steal cell phones.

Fedna was arraigned and is being held without bail. Court information on the juvenile suspect was not available.

Luongo said he's glad the incident ended the way it did, but he's concerned that his house may have been targeted. He said right now police have not given him a clear reason why the suspects chose his home.
