Other than a brief interruption on Monday, many of the next several days will be quite a bit milder than average.

Temperatures Sunday popped into the 70s for most, except in far Northern New England where highs were in the 60s behind a cold front. Skies stayed mostly cloudy, with peeks of sun here or there.

That front sparked a few spotty showers in Northern New England Sunday morning, and in Southern New England Sunday afternoon.

Behind the front cooler air will flow in as winds snap to the north-northeast. That onshore wind will keep us locked in with a lot of clouds on Monday, and temperatures that hold in the 50s to near 60. There may be a touch of drizzle or a sprinkle from time to time.

Winds turn back to the southwest on Tuesday, allowing highs to surge back into the 70s and even near 80. Expect similar conditions, with a mix of sun and clouds, on Wednesday.

Far Northern New England will be cooler with a few spot showers, but that will be the exception rather than the rule.

As another front approaches Thursday, rain returns for more of us. The rain may become infused with some tropical moisture from the south, associated with what will be the remnants of Michael at that point.

Michael is likely to impact parts of the Gulf of Mexico as either a tropical storm or hurricane during the middle of this week.

Any of that rain starts to clear out on Friday, and behind it, much cooler air arrives in time for next weekend.
