Two dogs were found inexplicably roaming the busy Tobin Bridge Thursday afternoon and rescued by a couple of motorists and Massachusetts State Police troopers.
The dogs were spotted on the bridge, New England's longest, by some motorists about 3:30 p.m., according to a Mass State Police tweet.
They stopped the dogs and kept them from being struck by vehicles, eventually allowing Trooper Ricky Chiampi and another trooper to safely get the pooches inside a police cruiser, police said
Chelsea Animal Control then took over and took the dogs to a local animal hospital, police said.
It's unclear if the dogs were someone's pets or how they got onto the structure, which carries 46,000 vehicles every day, according to federal bridge safety data.
