New Ridesharing Service for Women to Launch in Boston

Chariot for Women is set to launch in April 2016

After reading more stories about assaults on women using ridesharing services, one man decided to create a service that was just for women, driven by women.

Michael Pelletz launched Chariot for Women on February 9, 2016.

The ridesharing service only employs female drivers and only picks up female passengers and children.

According to the company's website, Pelletz, an Uber driver for almost two years, came up with the idea after he picked up an extremely intoxicated man one night.

Pelletz was able to find a police officer to help him with the passenger but he though to himself "What If i was a woman?"

The father of two teenage girls realized there was a market for a safer ridesharing service where women of all ages could feel safe getting home.

Safety is the main feature of the new service.

Every time the driver starts her day she will answer a security question to verify her identity.

Once a passenger requests a ride, a safe word will pop up on the driver and passenger's phone.

When the driver arrives to pick up the passenger, the driver says the safe word. If the word is correct, the ride can begin, if not, the passenger knows this is not their driver.

The company also plans to give back 2% of every fare to women-based charities.
