Shrimp Theft Suspects Arrested

Police say a couple who stole hundreds of dollars' worth of shrimp from grocery stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have been captured

Police say a couple who stole hundreds of dollars' worth of shrimp from grocery stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have been captured.

Investigators said the woman who drove the getaway vehicle, 33-year-old Nicole Lafontaine, and a man identified by police as 36-year-old Bradley Maker were arrested last week.

Lafontaine was arraigned Monday in Haverhill District Court on a larceny charge and held on $5,000 bail.

Prosecutors say she acted as the lookout and getaway driver when Maker loaded up a shopping cart with $400 worth of shrimp at a city supermarket and walked out without paying.

They're suspected of similar thefts in the New Hampshire towns of Portsmouth, Seabrook, Pelham and Londonderry.

The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1yP6S2G ) reports that Lafontaine's lawyer argued that there was no evidence tying his client to the thefts.
