The College of St. Joseph in Vermont has been placed on probation by the New England Association of Schools.

The Rutland Herald reports the NEASC notified the Rutland college on July 31 that it had been put on probation because its financial resources didn't meet standards. CSJ has struggled with enrollment and revenue issues.

CSJ president Jennifer Scott says the school has been open about its challenges.

The college spent about 90 percent of its $5 million endowment. CSJ board members voted in April to keep the college open despite the school's status.

Scott says the college will refocus on development and enrollment. CSJ staff will meet with the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in November.
