Tuesday could be a rough day for commuters and families as the cold weather continues to stick around New England.

There have already been some school delays announced because of the freezing weather expected Tuesday morning.

The MBTA is also warning people about the cold morning ahead, encouraging people to add about 20 minutes to their travel schedules. The agency said it will have people working around the clock to make sure the trains are running on schedule as many prepare to head back to work Tuesday after the holidays.

The MBTA has already announced that it must temporarily suspend Hingham's commuter boat service because of an ice-damaged dock. A commuter boat bus shuttle from the Hingham Ferry Terminal will be offered. Commuters will be taken to the West Hingham Station on the Greenbush Commuter Rail Line. Monthly boat passes will be accepted at all stations.

While people bundled up Monday, some braved the elements and headed down to Boston's Copley Square. They got to see the ice sculptures left over from First Night that, right now, are in no danger of melting.

"We drove up and got a parking spot. There's not a lot of people here," said Kristine Mullarkay.

In South Boston, many were out for the annual L Street Brownie Polar Plunge. They rang in 2018 by hitting the frigid water in the long running tradition.

In Worcester's Green Hill Park, people were out sledding while enjoying their last day of winter school vacation.

"We would have went a few more times but the sled broke," said Cheryl Rivera of Worcester.
