Former President Bill Clinton says Democratic candidate for treasurer Seth Magaziner "projects hope" and will create jobs in Rhode Island.
Clinton headlined a rally for Magaziner at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on Wednesday afternoon. The candidate is the son of former Clinton administration policy adviser Ira Magaziner.
The political newcomer is running against former Treasurer Frank Caprio, the Democratic Party's endorsed candidate. Clinton supported Caprio in his 2010 campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Clinton spent most of his 10-minute speech praising Magaziner's plan for how to use the treasurer's office to build the state's economy and create jobs.
The winner of the Sept. 9 primary faces former state Auditor General Ernie Almonte in November. Incumbent treasurer Gina Raimondo is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.
