Mass. AG Suing Lawrence Mayor Over Campaign Finance Reports

(NECN) - There is new trouble for Lawrence, Mass. Mayor William Lantigua.

Already under investigation by state and federal authorities for possible corruption, Lantigua is now being sued by the state.

Attorney General Martha Coakley says Lantigua failed to file campaign finance reports from 2011; they're nearly a year late.

So, Coakley has filed suit in hopes of ordering Lantigua to turn them in and personally pay a $5,000 fine. If he doesn't, the court could hold him in contempt.

We've reached out to Mayor Lantigua for reaction to the lawsuit. We haven't heard back.

Lantigua recently announced plans to run for reelection.
