Evacuations Underway in Towns Off Mississippi River in Louisiana

(NECN/CNN) - The mighty Mississippi slowly continues to flex its muscle. Evacuations are underway in towns off the river in Louisiana as the diversion from the Morganza spillway is making other areas take on more water.

President Obama saw the damage firsthand, meeting privately with flooding victims in Memphis Monday. After the river crested almost a week ago waters are still 11 feet above flood stage.

The national weather service says flood waters in Louisiana and also in Mississippi will peak at record levels by this weekend.
