Zero visibility as sandstorm rolls into northwest China

(NECN/CCTV) - A severe sandstorm hit Xinjiang's Hotan Prefecture in northwest China on Friday, reducing visibility to zero in some areas according to the local meteorological observatory, China's official Xinhua news agency reported.  

China's state television broadcast footage of a billowing clouds of sand engulfing the area.  

The sandstorm affected local traffic and agriculture, according to a statement from the local government.
