Edwin Alemany Found Guilty of Murder, Kidnapping

He is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday morning

A Boston man has been found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges for kidnapping and fatally stabbing a woman whose body was found in a park almost two years ago.

A jury found Edwin Alemany guilty Monday in the July 2013 killing of 24-year-old Amy Lord. He was convicted of numerous related charges and was acquitted of a charge of assault with intent to rape.

Prosecutors said Lord - a Wilbraham native living in South Boston - was beaten and forced to drive her SUV to several ATMs to withdraw money. She was then forced to drive to a city reservation where she was killed.

Alemany also was charged with assaulting two women before and after Lord's slaying.

"We don't see this sort of thing in Boston, where you're seeing a blitz attack like this and a woman snatched off the street," said Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley.

His attorney had said his client should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

"He began to self medicate with alcohol and drugs. That only exacerbated the illness and created a whole independent sickness. And this is a man that literally is hapless, hopeless, and helpless," said defense attorney Jeffrey Denner.

The jury did not agree with that defense, as they sat for 3 weeks, seeing Amy's family's pain.

"Of course we are all human. It was a tough case," juror Marilyn Stout said.

Alemany is expected to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Tuesday. He will be held without bail until that time.
