(NECN) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino is taking issue with recent comments made by comedian and television host Bill Maher, about the marathon bombings.

On Maher's HBI show last Friday, "Real Time with Bill Maher," the outspoken host referenced the moment during the Red Sox Rolling Rally, when the World Series trophy was placed at the marathon finish line, to pay tribute to the victims.
While Maher acknowledged that the bombings were terrible - and it was sad people died and others terribly injured, he reportedly went on to say, "Unfortunately that happens every day, in car accidents and everything else. I mean, your city was not leveled by Godzilla."

Responding on WBZ Radio, Menino called the comment "irresponsible."
He also said Maher should come to Boston so he can understand what “Boston Strong” is all about.
