| April 22, 2009 Through students' eyes: Holocaust film 'We Must Remember'
|
(NECN) - WARNING: Some historical footage may be disturbing. It started as a school project meant to introduce eighth graders to some history. But it became a life-changing experience for 16 california high school students who set out to film a documentary about the Holocaust.
Their film -- "We Must Remember" -- is being screened at film festivals around the country, including the Boston Independent Film Festival.
Broadcast journalism teacher Doug Green and four of his students from Carlsbad High School in California -- John Tipton (senior),
Max Miller (senior), Krysta Mortland (sophomore), Haley Quartarone (senior) -- share their story with NECN's Leslie Gaydos.
The film centers around the 16 students and their relatively small knowledge of the Holocaust at the onset of this assignment. The film is seen through the eyes of these students who toured historical sites, interviewed Holocaust survivors, met with Holocaust deniers, stumbled upon a neo-nazi rally and interviewed German teenagers.
The film will be played at the Boston International Film Festival.
