| July 3, 2009 Contamination shuts down Worcester beaches

(NECN: Worcester, Mass.) - Blue skies, minimal clouds, and temperatures nearing 80. A great day for the beach.
In fact Pam Bosque thought it would be fun to take her family of seven swimming at Worcester’s Shore Park until she found out that their could be contamination in the water.
It appears this week's wicked weather is still wreaking havoc on the area.
Worcester's Department of Inspectional Services says storm-water runoff may have raised bacteria levels in the city's ponds and lakes
In a public advisory issued for Friday, city officials warn: "There may be an elevated health risk to anyone swimming in storm water impacted areas as a result of increased concentrations of bacteria".
Disappointing many on one of the busiest beach days of the summer.
Contamination tests done earlier this week showed that the beaches were safe. But after today's round of testing, all four city run beaches are now closed.
