| June 30, 2009 Beware of ticks in this rainy weather
|
(NECN: Lauren Collins, Manchester, NH) - All the rain we have had this past month is doing more than just making the grass grow. It is creating the perfect breeding ground for ticks.
This has been one of the wettest Junes on record in New Hampshire. As of last week, rainfall totals were five times higher than a year ago. You can blame it on stubborn low pressure systems.
That's the scientific reason, but for some, summer vacation has been a washout!
Ticks, especially the dangerous black-legged, or deer, variety, thrive in damp conditions. And, it just happens that the end of June is the time of year when they get hungry.
While bug spray and long clothing are good protective shields, Dr. Eaton says a sharp pair of eyes are our best defense.
