2 Injured in MBTA Shooting

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is still on the loose.

Two people were shot at the Maverick MBTA station in East Boston on Tuesday afternoon, according to Boston Police.

The shooting occurred on a Blue Line train and inside the station at 2:40 p.m. Maverick Station is located at 220 Sumner at Chelsea and Meridian streets.

MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said it appears the incident began when two men on an inbound Blue Line train engaged in a verbal confrontation that turned physical. One of the men pulled a gun and fired two rounds at the victim, striking him.

The fight then spilled onto the platform at Maverick Station, where a second victim was also shot. That person's involvement in the alercation is not known, Sullivan said.

The two victims - ages 29 and 43 - were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation, and Sullivan said there is no suspect information at this time.

Shuttle buses replaced Blue Line service between Airport and Bowdoin stations due to the police activity.

The MBTA has resumed regularly scheduled train service between Bowdoin and Airport Stations with moderate residual delays.
