Authorities: Correction Officer killed in Motorcycle Accident

A correction officer has been killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

Authorities identified the victim Friday as 21-year-old Jacob Garmalo, of Leyden.

Garmalo worked for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

He was riding home Thursday morning after working an overnight shift.

Authorities said that Greenfield Police and Massachusetts State Police responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a car on Thursday morning, near the Franklin County House of Correction.

Garmalo was pronounced dead at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

The accident is under investigation.

Local police departments are expressing their condolences on Facebook.
