Councilors Concerned About Faneuil Hall Changes

They're voicing concerns about planned renovations

Two leading city councilors are voicing concern about planned renovations at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston.

Councilors Stephen Murphy and Michael Flaherty have requested a public hearing to talk about the "impact of push cart vendors on the economic vitality of the city."

The request was introduced at Wednesday's City Council meeting.

Murphy says he's concerned that the changes might force out some of the market's familiar pushcart vendors. He's also concerned the project might not be historically appropriate.

The Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. wants to modernize the facility, including changing the layout of Quincy Market's often jam-packed food court and introducing new retail options.

The marketplace is next to historic Faneuil Hall, the site of significant Revolutionary War speeches. It's one of the country's most visited historic sites.
