Gov. Baker: Trump's Call to Bar Muslims From US “Ridiculous”

Mass Republican Governor Charlie Baker called Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's proposal Monday for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. "ridiculous."

Trump released a statement calling for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what's going on."

Trumps proposed ban would apply to tourists and American Muslims living abroad.

Speaking at a campaign rally in South Carolina Monday night Trump said:

"When they leave our country and they go to fight for ISIS. or any of the other groups they can never come back."

He was met with standing ovations and applause.

Governor Baker said:

"As I've said before, I don't like getting into presidential politics. That's not what I got elected to worry about. But I think that's ridiculous and I would never support a policy like that."

Trump's campaign said in a statement that the ban comes in response to a level of hatred among "large segments of Muslim population" toward Americans.

"I have no idea what the motivation is on that but first of all it's unrealistic, secondly it's inappropriate and third it doesn't make any sense," said Governor Baker.
