MBTA: Person Under Red Line Train at Boston's Downtown Crossing Station

Authorities responded to reports of a person under a train at a downtown Boston MBTA station on Wednesday afternoon.

MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said a person was pinned under a Red Line train going outbound at Downtown Crossing after falling off the platform around 2:30 p.m. Boston Fire said crews responded to the scene to use special tools, including heavy-duty jacks, to free a conscious person.

The person was taken to Tufts Medical Center and is in stable condition, according to Boston Fire.

Red Line shuttle buses temporarily replaced service for customers between JFK and Kendall Square, causing severe delays. Riders were asked to use the Orange and Green lines instead. Regular service on the Red Line resumed around 3:40 p.m., with some moderate residual delays.

MBTA riders tweeted photos of the massive crowds at T stops across the city and spoke of heavy delays as a result of the issues on the Red Line.

The matter is under investigation.
