23 Arrested in Drug Sweep

Most of those charged are considered "low level" drug dealers, according to police

Police arrested 23 people in a drug sweep in Manchester, New Hampshire, early Thursday morning.

The arrests were announced at a press conference on Thursday. The investigation involved Manchester Police, New Hampshire State Police, New Hampshire Probation and Parole, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The criminal cases involved the purchase of drugs including cocaine, heroin, crack and prescription drugs. The investigation that led to the arrests began almost a year ago.

Manchester Police Chief David J. Mara said those charged are considered "low level" drug dealers, but the hope is that the arrests will serve as a deterrent to other drug activity in the city. This is the second drug roundup conducted in Manchester since February.
