Police in Methuen, Massachusetts, have taken a hi-tech step into controversial territory by outfitting a number of their officers with body cameras.
Several officers volunteered and have been wearing them for about a week and they say the benefits go both ways
Officer Jeff Torrisi said, “In traffic, people who would ask why they were pulled over right away now have a little more respect and it goes both ways so it levels it out.
Det. Tom McMenamon said, “Any officer wearing a camera who enters a home has to announce ‘I’m audio and video recording you right now.’”
In a Facebook survey conducted by Methuen Police, about 75 percent of residents support body cameras.
